Trucks Gone Wild

Grande Prairie Stompede week gets a bit hectic for the staff, so we bought lunch for our hardworking souls, and when we went outside we noticed something wrong in the parking lot… so we had to step in

Big changes at Speedpro!

As many of our customers know we have been looking for a replacement for our very talented Production Manager Andrea since January.

Andrea had some opportunities (like going to Africa to help children there) that she just could not pass up. And lets be honest Andrea is a hard act to follow.

We were determined to wait for the right person to come along. Little did we know that the person we were looking for was right under our nose.

Making signs is no more difficult than many jobs out there, but it can be an acquired taste. Imagine that you have to be a great juggler, as you are literally working on 10 jobs at the same time and managing all the many pieces that go into any on custom order.

Laura has been with us since October when she took over for the very popular Crystal. And Laura very quickly impressed with her leadership, self motivation and quickness to learn. She was hoping to learn more about sign making as we grew.

Laura is going to be our new production manager in training. So please welcome her with open arms, she can be a bit of a task master so watch out! Laura has been here since we started our Guaranteed Delivery Service so she knows how important it is to complete jobs in a timely manner AND she is really great at juggling.

SO now that Laura is moving from the front to the back, we are filling that chair with a new face.

She may be new and she may be young but she has tons of experience! Introducing Samantha Kudeba. Samantha comes to us via a couple of great sign shops in the city and has a strong background in design and customer service. One of the great things about Samantha is that she is very passionate about the sign industry, one of the most passionate we have met in some time. She has experience so she knows what she is talking abut and will be a valuable asset to the team.

Welcome Samantha and Congratulations Laura!

Speedpro Hiring a new Graphic Designer/Monkey

With sad hearts we must report our in house designer is moving to Calgary over Christmas. As much as we are happy for him and his family, and we know that he will still work for us on the side… we must get another butt in the seat here at the office.

See our ad on Kiji and if you know of someone please tell them apply.  They dont have to be perfect, or even have gone to school… we are open to find the right person with the right attitude.

Are you a self proclaimed graphic designer? Did you pirate Photoshop in your basement and learn how to use filters? Does seeing you work around town make you feel good? Interested in working as little as possible with the potential to grow with a company?

We Should Talk

Speedpro Sign is one of those shops where everything is a zoo.  And since you’re a creative little monkey, we’re looking for you.  You’ll be handholding with clients, designing and redesigning sign for a myriad of sign formats, from building signs to trade show graphics to automotive wraps.  Some clients will think they’re jsut like you – a designer- and make you change their banner a hundred times, and some will give you fairly stratightforward (slightly boring) projects but every so often you will get a sweet job to work on and it makes it all worthwhile.  Great design distinguishes our customers and us as a sign shop.

You’ll find yourself working ins a friendly dynamic enviroment. You’ need to pretend to have a working knowledge of Corel Draw and some Adobe software on a PC platform.  A coffee addiction is not required but is an asset. Other drugs are somewhat frowned upon.

Enjoy working part time, contracting and setting your own hours or freelancing.  Or what the hell, we’ll just pay you to stay away and we will send our work to Calgary where a really good designer lives. (He wrote this ad so technically we paid him to say that, wierd how things work out)

The job starts in the New Year, so get your CV polished and a few portfolio pics and think about what you bring to the table. Then lets talk.

Email your resumes please.

Someone has to say what we are all thinking….

Signs that say what everyone is thinking

Signs you can order from his web site www.jayshell.com

Artist Jason Shelowitz in New York has decided to take manners into his own hands.  Last Summer he make about 500 poster to talk to people about their lack of manners on the subway.  He posted them all over the New York Subway.

Now he has taken on Pedestrian Etiquette.  So he made some silk screened metal street signs. There are 4 different signs urging people to “Pull Up Your Pants”, Pay Attention while Walking” and Don’t Flick your Butts on the ground”.

Shelowitz is simply saying what most people are thinking and his efforts are gaining attention from around the world.

Take a Look at his work.

Electric Company Full Wrap on Nissan NV 2500 Cargo Van

Mr Electric CArgo Van Wrap

Mr Electric from all angles

Mr Electric Nissan Van Wrap
The AFTER pic! Way better!

If you are service company and you do most of your business inside your vehicle what better way to broadcast your business than by using your vehicle as a moving billboard.

Bill from Mr Electric, a brand new business in Grande Prairie, Alberta, came to us with his vehicle ordered and on its way and a bunch of rules from his Franchise.  We specialize in making head offices happy so it was no problem to make sure the design matched the brand rules from the head office. Our graphic designer was able to make the local owner and the head office happy.

The next step was color matching, so we printed a test of one of the sides in a small scale so he could see the intesity.  Happily we got it right the first time!

It took 4.5 days to wrap the Nissan, it is deceiving, like a small Sprinter Van. It looks flat until you start putting vinyl on it.  Just to give you an idea, it took as long for our installer to put the graphics onthe front of the van as it did BOTH sides.

We always edge seal the graphics so they are less likely to fail, that was the final step before we took the final pictures.

How much does this cost you ask?  A Full wrap like this one can cost you 4,000-5,000 dollars.  For smaller SUVs and Cars you can budget $2,000-$4,000.

Remember it is all based on square feet, the less you use the less it costs.   WE have been very successful in making partial wraps look like full wraps (check out the FREE FM Winter Adventure Team).  You control the decisions on how much you want to use.

BEFORE the Wrap - looks pretty plain?

Does this look fun or what?

Bed Shop Window Decals

The Bed Shoppe Feet Window Decals

A local family owned store, The Bed Shoppe, wanted to spruce up their windows, promote the brands they sell and promote the fact that they have a fun culture.

Our designer pitched the idea of the feet and the matresses. We tried to talk them into a fun picture of the family, but that was a lot to ask.  We thought the feet really made it look like there was a party going on inside.

We made sure the window graphics represented all their brands so that everyone knows the extensive lines they carry.

The decals were printed on a calendared vinly with a 5 year OverLaminate applied to make sure they don’t fade or peel.  The feet were cut out by the machine so the lines were perfect.  The install took abut 20 minutes per window including the cleaning etc (and there were 20+ windows). If you look below at the feature window, we highlighted that brand with a frame of white and the repeating of the logo at the top.

This from Mike Gakan, owner

Digital Signs for your small business

Have you ever thought of having your own TV Station???? Next to the real thing, having a digital signage network can be almost as much fun.

you control everything about the display, and what it shows.  Some companies advertise their own products (think Timmies) and some will sell the ad space and generate revenue (see BAM Media locally in Grande Prairie with 6 screens in health professional offices).

Digital Signage is catching on and it can be easier than ever.
